Second Days

Image
By Liz Hattemer They blended one into the other, our days in the wilderness of Hull Island. Six tents pitched on what soon became main camp, situated in a somewhat haphazard manner - according to who found moss, who found a clearing large enough after felling what seemed like hundreds of rotting alders . The days were exhausting, yet we all found ways to relax and recover. Hull's Kitchen became the hang out, happy hour was not to be missed, if only to move one more rock, build a better ledge for cooking and prepping. The projects were simple enough: create trails, clear some trees. Take down the "For Sale" sign. Explore. The most incredible views of the area were seen from the seat of the kayak, since growth on the island was so dense and trail blazing was rarely at the water's edge. The stark beauty of the surroundings is hard to describe. All I know is I want to go back.
